We at Shetler Dairy would love to be your personal farmer, making you feel at home when you visit, bringing you the healthiest, tastiest milk products from happy cows that will make you smile, created by our care of the soil, animals, and resources that God has given us and to leave it better for the next generation of farmers and community.

Our Family

George Shetler has been farming since he was 10 and Sally once said: “she’d never marry a farmer”. The rest is history!

Their families have both been in farming for decades. George also managed a dairy farm at a delinquent boy’s village at Smithville, Ohio from 1970-1972. George and Sally were married in 1973 where George managed another dairy farm in Orville, Ohio for a year where their oldest son, Kaleb was born. They moved to Kalkaska in 1974 and bought George’s parents farm on CR 612. Three more children, Jacob, Stacia, and Annie soon joined the family.

In 1979 they purchased the farm where Shetler Dairy is now located on Tyler Rd. Their youngest son, Peter was born in 1982. Their family has grown to include 18 wonderful grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and counting.

Their goal and mission has always been to honor God with all they have and serve others.

Pete is the youngest of George and Sally’s five kids. Upon graduating in 2000 he went to Spring Arbor University where he met Darcy in 2002. They were married in July of 2003 in Davison, Michigan, where they welcomed their first child Sidney in February 2005. Pete missed the farm life and in August of 2005 they moved back home. First son Andrew was born in September 2006, followed by Jackson in May 2008, and then Owen in March 2010. During that time Pete encouraged his dad, George, to start rotating crops again which helps with soil health and gain more yield. After watching his dad create a future for his own children, Pete felt led to do the same for his children. In November 2011, Pete and Darcy started their own beef business and are continuing to watch that grow with God’s blessings. In August of 2017 they launched the first annual Farmer Pete’s Corn Maze. Today, Pete is still milking cows at the farm and on a tractor any chance he can get. Darcy works in the office during the week and in the barn every other weekend with Pete. Any given afternoon you will find their boys working in the barn feeding cows and horses, and rewarding themselves with milk or ice cream when they are done.  Pete and Darcy are looking forward to helping the farm continue to grow and bring more family friendly events and activities.

Kaleb is the oldest of George and Sally’s five children. He joined the US Army after high school and spent nine years as an Army engineer. His oldest son Gregory was born in Alaska in June 1995. After being away from the farm for nearly a decade, Kaleb came back to run the new bottling facility that his parents had built. Over the years, Kaleb has been the milk man and delivered all the processed milk to stores in Northern Michigan and as the dairy plant manager, he has expanded Shetler Dairy’s product line to include the flavored milks, buttermilk, yogurt, butter, and ice cream. During all this, he welcomed a son, Tyrone, in 2002, a daughter, Elizabeth, in 2003, and another son, Gabriel, in 2006.  His oldest, Greg, helped his grandma sell milk at farmer markets for a few years and helped his grandpa with farm work. Greg is currently an engineer in the United States Air Force in Japan where he lives with his wife, Rachel, and son, Rico.

In August of 2017 Kaleb married Traci and welcomed her two amazing children, Ivy and Bodee, to the family. Traci works at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center as a COTA/L. Currently, Kaleb is the Dairy Plant Manager and still enjoys being “The Milk Man”.
