Here at Shetler Family Dairy, we love to help you use our ingredients to provide your family with delicious, satisfying meals. Below you will find some of our families and employee’s favorite recipes using our Shetler Products.

Borscht

Recipe by Michelle L.

Ingredients:
2 lbs. of Shetler Steak or Roast
6 medium-sized beets (save the greens)
1 onion
1 garlic clove
1 tbsp. of dill
1 tsp. of vinegar
Salt and Pepper to taste
Sour cream

Directions:
1. Shred beets with cheese grater or cut into small cubes
2. Brown steak or roast and then cube
3. Place shredded beets, cubed meat, onion, garlic, dill, vinegar, and beet greens into crock pot. Fill the rest of the crock pot with water
4. Slow cook on medium to high for 4 hours
5. Add salt and pepper
6. Portion into bowls and add a dollop of sour cream

Butter Cream Frosting

Ingredients:
1 cup of Shetler Unsalted Butter
4 cups of sifted confectioners’ sugar
2 tbsp. of Shetler Whole Milk
1 tsp. of vanilla extract
1 tsp. of almond extract (optional)

Directions:
1. In large bowl, beat 1 cup of butter with electric mixer until light and fluffy. Then beat in 1 tsp of vanilla
2. Gradually add 4 cups of confectioners’ sugar, one cup at a time, beating well on medium speed. Scrape sides and bottom of bowl often. When all sugar has been mixed in, icing will appear dry
3. Gradually add 2 tbsp. of milk: beat at medium speed until light and fluffy
4. Add almond extract and mix well.
Note: use additional flavors or add ins to change flavors, such as extracts, fruits, or chocolate

Chili

Recipe by Darcy

Ingredients:
1 lb. of Shetler ground beef
1 lb. of Shetler ground pork
½ onion
Chili seasoning to taste
2 large cans of diced tomatoes
1 can Rotel™ tomatoes
1 can fire roasted tomatoes

Directions:
1. Place all ingredients into slow cooker and turn cook on LOW for 6-8 hours.
2. For final 30 minutes turn temperature to HIGH and add 2 cans of drained kidney beans
3. Top with cheese, sour cream, crackers, or Fritos

Chocolate Cake

Ingredients:
2 ½ cups of sugar
2 eggs
2/3 cups of Shetler Butter
½ cup of chocolate powder
1 cup of boiling water
1 cup of cold water
2 ½ cups of flour
2 tsp. of baking soda
1 tsp. of salt
1 tsp. of vanilla

Directions:
1. Cream together sugar, eggs, butter, chocolate powder
2. Add boiling and cold water to creamed together ingredients
3. Mix and add flour, baking soda, salt, and vanilla to other ingredients
4. Bake at 350 degrees for 40-50 minutes

Chocolate Frosting

Recipe by Sally

Ingredients:
4 tbsp. Shetler Butter
¼ cup of chocolate powder
3 tbsp. Shetler Heavy Cream
¾ – 1 cup of powdered sugar

Directions:
1. Mix together butter, chocolate powder, and heavy cream
2. Stir in powdered sugar to desired consistency
